I’m guessing that most readers of this blog are young, or at least young at heart. So here’s a collection of insights from older folks titled “What do you wish you’d been told before you left school?” It’s from lifehacker, an AWESOME site for well, hacking your life. The question was posed and left to the readers to answer. There are 22 answers as I write this and I suspect it’ll grow to 100 or more. Here are some nuggets of wisdom so far:
- “I wish I had understood how important passion is in your life. When it
comes to a career choice my adage is….If you can’t put your heart
into it, DON’T DO IT!” - “Start paying your bills as soon as possible. Pay more on smaller debts
so that when they are paid, you can have less payments to make every
month. Resist the urge to “reward” yourself for your post-college
success with purchases that will keep you from becoming debt-free
sooner. Also, make a monthly budget and stick to it.” - “Find a real-world mentor, someone close to you in age who has been
through a little more life. Education doesn’t stop with graduation.” - ”
Don’t be afraid to look stupid.”
Great advice indeed.
