There was never a question about whether I’d be a musician.

I pulled my mom’s pots and pans out of the cabinet and banged them with wooden spoons when I was about a year old. My mom and dad met in a band and were both music teachers. My High School guidance counselors never even asked what I wanted to do after school. Everyone knew I’d be a pro drummer.

And that’s what I did.

For over 20 years I recorded and played live in Nashville, across the United States, and in parts of the world. I played with Russ Taff, Kim Boyce, Paul Smith, Out of The Grey, Lari White, Trisha Yearwood, Sweethearts of The Rodeo, and many others. I won an Academy of Country Music Award with The Gibson/Miller Band and a Grammy for India Arie’s Acoustic Soul. I had a really good run.

And then one day many years ago, despite lots of success and fighting as hard as I could, I had to face the fact that I had failed to build a long-term music career.

So I got a real job.

And Then I Learned About Success

The details of the job don’t matter. What matters is the education the job provided. Not only did I learn a lot through work but the company put me through class after class on how to be a success. I was immediately struck by the fact that if I had that professional development training as a musician I would have been…well, you get the idea.

I’ve been commited to passing along that knowledge to musicians like you ever since.

I’ve looked at the careers of countless singers, songwriters, musicians, and bands as well as people from other industries, too. I’ve talked to people who have succeeded and those who have not. I’ve also learned from my own successes and failures. And I’ve helped musicians like you build successful music careers.

Note: I define a successful music career as an entire life with the creative expressions, location(s), people, and lifestyle that meet your deepest needs. Or said another way: a life worth living supported by music.

If you want that kind of success in music, I can help.
